2013 - How it all began
Hotelier Johannes Gufler came across his first classic car in his garage: a Mercedes 230 SL, the Pagoda of a friend. He had restored it and parked it at the Plantiz residence. The two friends took it for a spin, enjoyed it and Johannes was infected with classic car fever.
His first own classic car was also a Pagoda. Guests at Ansitz Plantiz can hire it and three other classic cars for excursions. A firm grip on the steering wheel, a picnic basket in the back seat and travelling along South Tyrol’s mountain passes: This is what a day trip in a classic car hotel could look like. Guests travelling with their own collector’s item can use the video-monitored underground car park and a well-equipped tool room.

My father loves classic cars and he also loves meticulously working out new tours. As the first classic car hotel in South Tyrol, our Ansitz Plantiz is of course very special.
A look at the postcard motif
Those who prefer to let vintage car expert Johannes Gufler take the wheel can sink into the back seat of his 1977 VW Bulli. The special driving experience can be experienced up close on a trip to the surrounding vineyards. Every week, the hotelier also invites guests to an aperitif in the classic car garage: a meeting place for like-minded people to talk shop and exchange tour ideas.
Once a year, it’s time for the “Merano Classic”, a pleasure tour that starts and finishes at Ansitz Plantiz. Thirty participants then drive up early in the morning in their classic cars. And Johannes’ classic car fever reaches its peak.
